material : White cement, color papers
Using colored paper, I made a mold in the same way as origami, and poured white cement into it. Due to the strong alkalinity of cement, the pigment of colored paper dissolves and moves to cement. In addition, the shape of the paper pattern is distorted by the moisture of the cement before hardening, and a unique shape is created. Its shape seems unordered, but it is determined by the relationship between fluid and gravity.
An experiment of the process of creating a minimum system by human hands and leaving it to the natural behavior of the material from there. The result is not artificially designed. What humans do is set effective questions, observe the process, and select results.
PROCESS
At first, I made various shapes with colored paper and experimented, but when I realized that the shape was the most beautiful when geometry is collapsed due to the moisture of cement, I changed the direction of the work.
By repeating the rhombus pattern, the relationship that the fluid motion of cement breaks the rule of geometry becomes clear. I tried several colors of paper and found that some colors changed over the course of several months. For example, if you make it from black paper, the color that transfers to cement is dark blue, and it changes to purple over time. It was unexpected that not only the process of production but also the principle of nature will change even after completion.
